BNOC appointed into the Botswana National Sports Commission Board

The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Hon. Thapelo Olopeng has appointed the President and Secretary General of Botswana National Olympic Committee, Messrs. Negroes Malealea Kgosietsile and Tuelo Serufho to the Botswana National Sports Commission Board for a 4 year term effect from 1st August, 2015. The appointment follows the passing of the Sport Commission Act.

Accepting the appointment, the BNOC Chief Executive Mr. Tuelo Serufho said “We are happy to serve in the Board, this will give us the opportunity to influence the national sports policy and equitable distribution of resources for sports development”.

The Botswana National Olympic Committee remains an autonomous body and the only entity in the country responsible for facilitating participation of the country to the Olympic, Commonwealth and African Youth Games. In addition to this, the BNOC administers scholarships for athletes, coaches, administrators as well as training for the same groups.

As Botswana currently has no standalone National Anti Doping Agency (NADO), the BNOC is the defacto NADO for Botswana.

The Sport Commission will not in any way affect the BNOC operations.
