Commonwealth Youth Games Team Announced

The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) announced on Friday, 31st July 2015, the Team that will represent Botswana at the 5th edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Apia, Samoa from 5 – 11 September 2015.

The team, comprising 8 boys and  3 girls all aged under 18 has been selected from the sports of Athletics (track and field), Boxing and Swimming and will be led by BNOC Board Member Mr. Michael Moroka as Chef de Mission. Besides Mr. Moroka, Team Botswana has a General Team Manager, a Physiotherapist and four (4) coaches. The full list of the Team members and their credentials can be retrieved from

In his remarks at the Team announcement ceremony, the BNOC President Mr. Negroes Malealea Kgosietsile implored the Team to keep training hard and prepare to perform to their best abilities in Samoa.

“Go there and enjoy yourselves, of course behaving in a manner that can be expected of a Motswana child. We want you to make friends and be very great ambassadors of this great nation. We have not set any medal target for you, but of course if you will bring any medal that will be a bonus” said Mr. Kgosietsile.

For his part, Local Organizing Committee Member Gift Nkwe reminded the athletes that they were chosen amongst many others, who would have loved to adorn the national colours and represent Botswana in Samoa.

Botswana will be competing at its third Commonwealth Games in Samoa, having made her debut in Pune, India in 2008, followed by Isle of Man in 2011.

At each of Pune and Isle of Man, Team Botswana brought home two silver medals.
