The City of Durban has been confirmed to host the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The announcement was made this morning in Auckland, New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games Federation, General Assembly. The Commonwealth Games, have evolved from what was the British Empire Games, they are held every four years and were first celebrated in Hamilton, Canada in 1930; making the Games 85 years old in 2015. Although the African continent has had representation at the Games since 1930 (i.e. through South Africa) the Games have never been hosted on the African soil, making the announcement historic.
